Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson for the Bangladesh United Sanatani Awakening Alliance and a former ISKCON leader, was arrested last week in Dhaka by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He was later transferred to Chattogram and presented before a court, which denied his bail and sent him to jail. Chaos erupted outside the court as his followers protested, leading to the death of a lawyer named Saiful Islam Alif.
Amid this controversy, a photo card featuring the name and logo of private broadcaster Somoy TV went viral on Facebook. The photo card claimed, "Three crore Hindus will take to the streets; more deaths will follow if our leader is not freed," allegedly quoting an ISKCON member's Facebook status.
However, a Fact-Watch investigation has confirmed that Somoy TV did not release such a photo card. A detailed search of Somoy TV's verified Facebook page and website for the alleged publication date, November 27, yielded no such content. Additionally, the viral photo card contains spelling errors in Bangla wording, which are unlikely to appear in professional news media.
Moreover, discrepancies were found in the design and fonts of the logo used in the fake card compared to Somoy TV’s verified branding. These inconsistencies strongly suggest that the card was digitally fabricated.
Given the evidence, Fact-Watch has labeled the viral photo card as “false information” and urged the public not to be misled by such deceptive posts.
