Combining this with the 40 candidates disqualified earlier, a total of 267 candidates were removed from the initial list, resulting in the revised list of 1,896 candidates published on December 30

The Ministry of Public Administration of Bangladesh published a gazette on October 15, 2024, appointing 2,064 candidates under the 43rd Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS). However, a revised notification was issued on December 30, 2024, canceling the previous gazette and appointing 1,896 candidates. This revision effectively excluded 168 candidates compared to the initial list. Following this, claims surfaced in Indian media alleging that the excluded candidates were predominantly Hindus.

Fact-Check
An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team revealed that the claim that "all or most of the 168 excluded candidates are Hindus" is misleading. The findings indicate that among the excluded candidates, at least 120—or approximately 57%—are Muslims. Moreover, about 41 candidates who were excluded in the initial notification were re-added in the revised list, with at least five being Hindus or from minority communities.
On January 2, 2024, the Ministry of Public Administration clarified the changes. Initially, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission had recommended 2,163 candidates for various cadres under the 43rd BCS on January 25, 2024. These candidates underwent preliminary character verification through the Special Branch of Bangladesh Police and the respective district administrations. Following the verification, 40 candidates were disqualified for failing medical examinations, while 59 were flagged as temporarily ineligible due to adverse reports. Consequently, the October 15 gazette listed 2,064 candidates.

However, due to concerns over the integrity and acceptance of the recruitment process, the authorities decided to conduct a more detailed character verification involving the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). Their reports identified 227 candidates with adverse findings, leading to their temporary disqualification. Combining this with the 40 candidates disqualified earlier, a total of 267 candidates were removed from the initial list, resulting in the revised list of 1,896 candidates published on December 30.Further analysis by the Rumor Scanner team identified discrepancies between the October and December notifications:Among the 209 candidates excluded from the initial list, at least 120 were Muslims (57% of the excluded group). The revised list added 41 new candidates, including at least five Hindus or members of minority communities. The Ministry clarified that the revised list was based on enhanced character verification by intelligence agencies, aiming to ensure the recruitment of candidates with clean records and restore confidence in the recruitment process. The claim that "all or most of the excluded candidates were Hindus" is not supported by facts. The findings indicate that the excluded candidates were predominantly Muslims, not Hindus.

Furthermore, the revised list included candidates from minority communities, indicating no evidence of religious bias in the selection process. The Ministry has also stated that any disqualified candidate may file for reconsideration, and all appeals will be reviewed.

Conclusion
The allegations of religious discrimination in the revised 43rd BCS recruitment notification are misleading. The revisions were based on enhanced verification processes, and the changes reflect a balanced approach without evidence of bias.
