On May 3, the Indian news platform Aaj Tak Bangla published a video report featuring this image and claimed that the individuals shaking hands with Dr. Yunus were army officers. During the broadcast, the presenter stated, “But judging by their uniforms, they don’t appear to be members of the Bangladesh Army, as this is not the standard uniform of Bangladesh’s military. So, are they from another country’s army? What are they doing in Bangladesh? Are they Pakistani military officers?”

An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team confirmed that none of the individuals seen shaking hands with Dr. Yunus are officers of either the Pakistani or Bangladeshi armed forces. All of them are officials from various branches of the Bangladesh Police. The image in question was taken on April 29 during the inauguration of Police Week 2025.
The same image was found on April 29 on both the Facebook page and website of the Industrial Police, indicating it was taken during the opening and medal ceremony of Police Week 2025. At the event, the Additional Inspector General of Industrial Police, Mr. Md. Shibghat Ullah, PPM, received the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM-Service) from Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who serves as the Chief Adviser to the interim government.
Further investigation on the Bangladesh Police's official Facebook page revealed multiple photographs from the same day showing officers in identical uniforms. Even Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam is seen in the same uniform standing beside Dr. Yunus.
When contacted, AIG (Media) Enamul Haque Sagar confirmed to Rumor Scanner that all individuals in the photograph are indeed members of the Bangladesh Police. “This is our ceremonial dress, known as the summer tunic. During Police Week, we wear ceremonial attire,” he stated.
In summary, the individuals with whom Dr. Muhammad Yunus is seen shaking hands are all officers from different branches of the Bangladesh Police. Therefore, the claim made by Indian media that the image depicts Dr. Yunus shaking hands with Pakistani military officers is misleading.
