A video has recently been circulated on social media claiming to show the destruction of an Indian airbase following an attack by Pakistani forces.
Fact-Check
Upon investigation by the Rumor Scanner team, it was found that the circulated footage does not depict an incident in India. Rather, the video shows a fire that broke out at a factory in Indonesia.
The team located a video shared on May 5 by the Indonesian media outlet Info Kejadian Jepara dan Sekitarnya via its official Instagram account. This video matches the one being circulated. According to the post, the fire occurred in the Pekalongan HWI factory area, where several houses, stalls, and a motorcycle parking zone were damaged by the blaze.
Based on this lead, a keyword-based search led to an article published on the same day by another Indonesian news outlet, Kompas.com, titled “Kebakaran Hebat Landa PT HWI Jepara, Ratusan Motor Buruh Pabrik Hangus” (Massive Fire Hits PT HWI Jepara, Hundreds of Factory Workers’ Motorcycles Burned). According to the report, a major fire broke out on May 5 in the parking area of PT Hwaseung Indonesia (HWI), located in the Gemulung village of the Pecangaan sub-district in Jepara, Central Java. The fire spread to multiple food stalls and the motorcycle parking area, resulting in vehicles belonging to workers catching fire.
Therefore, the video in circulation does not depict the destruction of an Indian airbase. It shows the fire incident that occurred on May 5 in Indonesia, falsely claimed to be the result of a Pakistani military attack on Indian military infrastructure. This claim is entirely false.
