Recently, a photocard designed in the style of electronic media outlet Independent TV, featuring the headline “Students may hit anyone if they wish, but no one can touch students,” has been circulated on social media platform Facebook.
Fact-check
Rumor Scanner Team’s investigation revealed that Independent TV did not publish any photocard or news quoting National Citizen Party (NCP) convenor Nahid Islam as making such a statement. Rather, the circulated photocard was digitally manipulated using the design format of Independent TV’s official graphic materials.
At the beginning of the investigation, the disputed photocard was examined. It contains the logo of Independent TV and is dated July 2, 2025.
Referring to the logo and the mentioned date, a review of all recent official photocards posted on Independent TV’s verified Facebook page found no such photocard containing the claimed quote. Moreover, no news matching this claim was found on Independent TV’s website or YouTube channel.
However, on July 2, a photocard was found on the verified Facebook page of the media outlet bearing the headline “Touching students will have consequences: Nahid Islam.” Upon review, it was observed that the design and image used in this original photocard match exactly with the circulated one. In the original Independent TV version, the headline reads “Touching students will have consequences: Nahid Islam,” while the edited version circulated online reads “Students may hit anyone if they wish, but no one can touch students.” In other words, the controversial photocard was created by digitally editing the headline of Independent TV’s authentic photocard.
According to comments under the original photocard on Independent TV’s Facebook post, and the report published on the media outlet’s website, it was revealed that during a street meeting held at Ghoshpara and Rajarhat in Kurigram as part of the July March, Nahid Islam, convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP), referred to the incident in Patiya, Chattogram, and warned, “The police attack on the soldiers of the mass uprising in Patiya, Chattogram, is a highly condemnable act. We want reform in the police. We want the police not to lay hands on anyone. We don’t want violence. But if students are unjustly attacked, the consequences will not be good.” Furthermore, no information supporting the circulated claim was found in any other media outlet.
Therefore, the photocard circulated under the name of Independent TV with the headline “Students may hit anyone if they wish, but no one can touch students” is edited.
