A video has recently circulated on social media under the caption, “Ordinary people are rising up against this illegitimate government,” claiming to depict a current event.

In the video, a rickshaw puller is heard saying, “We do not accept this illegal mafia government, and we never will.”

Fact Check

Investigation by the Rumor Scanner team reveals that the video featuring the rickshaw puller's statement is not recent and was not directed against the interim government. In reality, the video is from the 2024 quota reform movement and is now being shared as if it reflects recent developments.

At the beginning of the investigation, key frames from the video in question were reverse searched, leading to a post on July 17, 2024, in a Facebook group named ‘BCS Question Bank’. The video there, which is 21 seconds long, matches the visuals of the one now being circulated.

The same video was also found to have been published on the same date—July 17, 2024—on another Facebook page titled ‘Bondhu Krishan TV’.

Although no specific details could be found about the exact location where the video was recorded, it is confirmed that the footage is not from a recent event.

Therefore, a video of a rickshaw puller's statement during the 2024 quota reform movement is now being falsely circulated on social media as a current protest against the interim government, which is misleading.
