Boom Bangladesh has verified that the video was originally published by an Indian content creator on the Facebook page named ‘Kalseng Sangma Page’ on July 18.

A video circulating on social media claims that a Chakma man in Khagrachhari is pretending to be injured using paint. Several similar posts have been observed on various social media platforms.

On September 28, a Facebook handle named ‘Gana Adhikar Parishad’ posted the video, stating, “Watch the drama of the injured Chakma from Khagrachhari; he’s pretending with paint.”

Fact-check: Boom Bangladesh has verified that the claim is false. The video in question is not of a Chakma man in Khagrachhari pretending to be injured. It was originally published by an Indian content creator on July 18 on the Facebook page titled ‘Kalseng Sangma Page’. A keyframe from the video was used to trace the original post on the page.

The page includes the label “Local Funny Reels” and upon reviewing its content, various staged performances are found. According to the page transparency section, the page is managed from India.

In other words, the video being circulated was created by an Indian content creator and published on his Facebook page in July.

It is worth noting that a report by Prothom Alo stated, “On the night of September 23, a teenage girl was allegedly gang-raped while returning from private tuition. She was later found unconscious in a field around 11 PM by her relatives. Police have detained one suspect in connection with the incident.” A report by Deutsche Welle Bangla noted, “On Thursday, September 25, ‘Jumma Students and People’ held a blockade demanding justice for the rape of an indigenous girl in the hilly district of Khagrachhari. Protests also occurred in the two other hill districts—Rangamati and Bandarban. Due to the blockade from 6 AM to 12 PM, vehicular movement came to a halt on roads connecting Dhaka-Khagrachhari, Chattogram-Khagrachhari, Khagrachhari-Rangamati, and Khagrachhari-Sajek. Protesters blocked roads by burning tires and placing tree logs in various parts of the district.”

Therefore, an old video by an Indian content creator is being falsely linked to a recent incident in Bangladesh to spread misleading claims on social media.
