A video has recently circulated claiming that former U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the European Union’s initiative to revoke Dr. Muhammad Yunus’ Nobel Prize.

Fact-check

An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team has found that the claim is false. Instead, a video clip from Donald Trump’s first cabinet meeting after securing his second term as president was used to support this claim. In the meeting, Trump discussed an unrelated issue concerning the European Union.

In the video, Trump can be heard saying, “But I love the countries of Europe. I, I love all countries, frankly. All different. But the European Union has been… it was formed in order to screw the United States. I mean, look, let’s be honest. The European Union was formed in order to screw the United States. That’s the purpose of it, and they’ve done a good job of it, but now I’m president.”

At no point in the video does Trump mention Dr. Muhammad Yunus or the revocation of his Nobel Prize. A reverse image search of key frames from the video led to a recording titled “President Trump Hosts First Cabinet Meeting, Feb. 26, 2025,” published on The White House’s official YouTube channel on February 26. The segment between 50 minutes and 50 seconds to 51 minutes and 6 seconds of that video matches the widely circulated clip in question. At 50 minutes and 2 seconds, Trump was asked, “Mr. President, have you made a decision regarding the tariffs you will impose on the European Union?”

In response, Trump stated, “We have reached a decision, and we will announce it very soon. Generally, it will be around 25 percent, and it will apply to cars and all other goods. The European Union is entirely different from Canada. They have taken advantage of our weaknesses in many ways. They do not accept our cars. They largely reject our agricultural products under various pretexts. Meanwhile, we accept everything from them. We have a trade deficit of nearly 300 billion dollars with the European Union. Look, I love the countries of Europe. I think, at some point, I must have come from there a long time ago, right? Maybe indirectly, or even directly. But I love the countries of Europe. Frankly, I love all countries. They are all different. But the European Union… it was created to undermine the United States. Let’s be honest. The European Union was formed to put the United States at a disadvantage. That was its purpose, and they have done a good job of it, but now I am president.”

Furthermore, a keyword search yielded no credible reports from mainstream media or reliable sources that confirm Trump ever made a statement about revoking Dr. Yunus’ Nobel Prize at the initiative of the European Union.

Thus, the claim that Trump made such a remark has been spread using a video clip from an unrelated discussion in his first cabinet meeting after his second term. This claim is false.
