Fact-check

An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team reveals that the video is not from a recent BBC interview with Sheikh Hasina. Instead, it is an old interview from 2007 with Al Jazeera.

At the beginning of the investigation, an analysis of the video’s caption showed a reference to BBC. Based on this, the BBC’s official YouTube channel and website were examined, but no such recent interview with Sheikh Hasina was found.

Further verification was conducted through a reverse image search of key frames from the video. This led to the discovery of an eight-minute-and-56-second-long video published on April 28, 2007, on Al Jazeera’s YouTube channel under the title "Frost Over The World – Sheikh Hasina Wazed -27 Apr 07." A portion of this video closely matches the one currently being circulated.

At 3 minutes and 22 seconds into the original video, host David Frost is seen asking Sheikh Hasina, "Do you want to be the Prime Minister of Bangladesh again?" In response, the former Prime Minister states, "It depends on our people. If our people want me, then they will decide. How can I say this? Of course, I want to serve my people. I want to work for my people." This confirms that the circulated video is not from a recent interview. Therefore, the claim that Sheikh Hasina recently gave an interview to BBC is false.
