An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team reveals that the circulated video does not depict an attack on a Hindu home.

The claim that a group of Muslims attacked a Hindu wedding venue has been widely circulated online, accompanied by a video with the caption: "Say more—two blossoms on one stem. Because it is Ramadan, the Tawhidi public attacked a Hindu wedding." The caption references a poem by Kazi Nazrul Islam—"Mora ek brinte duti kusum, Hindu-Muslim"—implying that Muslims carried out an attack on Hindu property.

Fact-Check

An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team reveals that the circulated video does not depict an attack on a Hindu home. Instead, it shows footage of an attack and arson at a shrine in Dinajpur, which has been misleadingly presented to support the false claim.

Further examination traced the video to a Facebook page named Herabon Pak Darbar Sharif, where a post including the same footage was published on March 1. The video in the post closely matches the one being circulated. The caption of the post states: "Thousands of bearded men in skullcaps and traditional attire attacked, vandalized, and set fire to a shrine in Dinajpur. Each carried a stick! They claim to be from the Sirate Mustaqim Parishad! They destroyed and burned the shrine of Rahim Shah Bhandari, located in Birahimpur village of Singra Union, Ghughahat Upazila, Dinajpur district. They looted shrine property! The brutality of these people is evident just by looking at them. See for yourself how unsafe religion is in their hands. These extremists are the greatest threat to faith. Yazid’s discord is now entrenched in Bengal! A Husayni sacrifice is needed today to protect religion!" The post included hashtags such as #ShrineAttack, #Vandalism, #Arson, #Looting, and #Theft.

A report published on Prothom Alo's website on February 28, titled "Vandalism and Arson at Shrine Amid Preparations for Urs in Ghughahat", corroborates this claim. According to the report, during preparations for a three-day-long religious gathering at Rahim Shah Baba Bhandari Shrine in Ghughahat, Dinajpur, a group vandalized and set fire to the site. The attack took place on a Friday evening following a stick-wielding demonstration by members of an organization called Sirate Mustaqim Parishad.

Further confirmation comes from a Dhaka Post report published on March 1, titled "Vandalism and Arson at Shrine in Dinajpur". This report states that locals alleged the shrine authorities held annual Urs festivals featuring music, drug use, and other immoral activities, despite repeated objections. Instead of halting the events, the shrine authorities scheduled the annual gathering from March 2 to 4. In protest, an agitated crowd marched with sticks and later set fire to the event’s tents and the shrine itself.

Thus, evidence from multiple news sources confirms that the attack shown in the video took place at a shrine, not a Hindu home. There is no credible evidence of Hindu property being damaged in this incident.

In conclusion, the vandalism of Rahim Shah Baba Bhandari Shrine by the Sirate Mustaqim Parishad has been misrepresented as an attack by a Muslim mob on a Hindu wedding venue—an entirely misleading claim.
