A series of misleading posts have circulated on Facebook, sharing images of a fire with captions claiming that a terrorist attack took place in front of the United States Embassy in Belarus, causing damage to parts of the embassies of Bangladesh and Norway. However, FactWatch's investigation confirms that the images actually depict scenes from Russian missile attacks in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.

Reverse image searches on six photos shared by Tamanna Akter Yasmin reveal that the visuals match several reports published by international news agencies. These images document the aftermath of Russian missile strikes in Kyiv.

An Al Jazeera report published on December 20, 2024, states that one person was killed and at least seven others were injured in a missile attack in Kyiv. According to Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, several buildings across the city were damaged, and fires broke out in multiple locations. One of the images of the fire used in Yasmin’s post appears to have been sourced from this report.

One image showing multiple vehicles engulfed in flames traces back to an Instagram post dated December 20, 2024, which stated that a major attack occurred in Kyiv at 6:30 a.m. local time. A related keyword search led to a detailed report in the Kyiv Post, also published on the same day. Further searches found a Facebook post from the account "Supportukraine.uk," which includes all the discussed images. It is worth noting that the account belonging to Tamanna Akter Yasmin has a history of repeatedly spreading misinformation.

In addition to Yasmin’s account, similar posts—featuring three of the same images and repeating the same claims—were found on accounts named Mostofa Zaman and Bangla New. Moreover, keyword searches yielded no recent news about any attack on the United States Embassy in Belarus. Overall, analysis confirms that the images are not from Belarus, and the claims made in the captions are baseless. Therefore, the posts containing these unfounded claims are deemed false.
