An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team reveals that the woman in the video was not assaulted due to her religious identity or for any communal reasons.

Recently, a video has been circulating on social media showing a woman being dragged by her hair by another woman. The claim accompanying the video alleges that the victim was assaulted in Bangladesh due to her Hindu identity.

Fact-Check

An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team reveals that the woman in the video was not assaulted due to her religious identity or for any communal reasons. Instead, the incident occurred due to political reasons, as the woman is affiliated with the Awami League.

Upon analyzing the viral posts related to this claim, no credible evidence supporting the allegation was found.

A watermark labeled "BANGLADESH SONGBAD" is visible in the video. Tracing this source led to the Facebook page "Daily Bangladesh Songbad," where the same video was posted on November 10, 2024. The caption of the original video reads: "What happened to the Awami League leader – done by BNP activists." This clearly indicates that the woman was assaulted for her political affiliation with the Awami League.

Further investigation found another version of the video on the Facebook page "Deshjogot News" on the same date. The caption stated, "Public beating of Awami League leader." The footage shows individuals checking the woman’s mobile phone, with onlookers heard saying phrases like "she committed corruption" and "Apa from Sainik League."

Moreover, no credible evidence was found through various verification methods to support the claim that the woman was assaulted for communal reasons.

Thus, the incident of an Awami League activist being assaulted has been misrepresented as a communal attack due to her Hindu identity, which is false.
