The claim that former Chief of Army Staff General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan and several others have been appointed as advisors to the interim government has been circulating on Facebook, accompanied by an approval letter. However, a fact-check by FactWatch confirms that the document is fake. No official letter has been issued by the Cabinet Division approving any of the individuals mentioned in the document for the advisor position.
Upon verification, the circulated document states that the appointment was made under the directive of the Chief Advisor, with Sheikh Abdur Rashid named as the Cabinet Division Secretary. However, the document lacks an official signature. The date mentioned on the letter is March 8, 2025. It claims that eight individuals, including former Chief of Army Staff General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, have been "activated for oath-taking" as advisors to the interim government.
On Wednesday, March 12, in the afternoon, the verified Facebook page "CA Press Wing Facts" of the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing posted a statement regarding the document. It clarified that no new individuals had been approved for oath-taking as advisors to the interim government and that the Cabinet Division had issued no such letter. The image of the approval letter circulating on social media was declared fake.
Additionally, Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam also posted on Facebook at around 4:45 PM on Wednesday, stating that the document circulating under the name of the Cabinet Division was "fake and fabricated." Based on a comprehensive review, FactWatch has identified the document as false.
