Recently, a video claiming that U.S. President Donald Trump praised Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, has circulated widely on social media. According to the claim in the video, Trump is heard saying, “Dr. Yunus is a great personality and he is my friend. He has recently taken charge of Bangladesh’s interim government and is doing very well. Dr. Yunus will play a major role in Bangladesh’s development.”
Fact-check
An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team has found that the claim of Donald Trump praising Dr. Yunus is false. In reality, the video footage from a cabinet meeting held at the White House on April 30 was altered using artificial intelligence technology to include a fabricated audio clip falsely attributed to Trump.
Upon further examination, a video published on the Facebook page of Fox News on April 30 shows striking similarities with the circulated video. A comparative analysis of the two reveals that, apart from the inserted statement, all other elements—such as the setting, environment, and the positioning of participants—are almost identical. The same video was also released on Fox News’s X (formerly Twitter) account on the same day.
Further investigation confirms that the discussed video is originally from the White House cabinet meeting held on April 30. The complete transcript of that meeting is available on a website named ‘Roll Call’. However, there is no mention of any complimentary remarks by Donald Trump about Dr. Muhammad Yunus in that transcript.
Additionally, the video contains a noticeable inconsistency in Trump’s statement. At the 0.02-second mark, he can be heard uttering the word “meet” in a contextually irrelevant manner. Such irregular use of words is a common trait in deepfake or AI-generated fake audio clips.
To further verify the matter, the video was examined using multiple AI content detection platforms. On the ‘Hive Moderation’ platform, it was found that while the video itself is real, there is an 85 percent likelihood that the audio was generated using AI. Similarly, another tool called ‘Deepfake-o-meter’ analyzed the audio across several models, with some models showing up to a 100 percent likelihood that the audio was created using AI.
Therefore, it is evident that the circulated video contains fake audio generated through artificial intelligence technology, falsely portraying Donald Trump as having praised Dr. Yunus—a claim that is untrue.
