Recently, a photo card bearing the logo of Kaler Kantho was circulated on social media with the claim that the Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs in the interim government, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, stated, “An order has been given to withdraw all murder cases against Sheikh Hasina.”

Fact-check

An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team found that Jahangir Alam Chowdhury made no such statement and that Kaler Kantho did not publish any photo card with such a headline. In fact, the circulated photo card was fabricated using digital editing, replacing the original content of a genuine Kaler Kantho photo card containing a different statement by Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

The examined photo card shows the Kaler Kantho logo and mentions a publication date of 14 June 2025. However, no such photo card or news article could be found on Kaler Kantho’s official Facebook page or website. Nor has any other news outlet or credible source reported the alleged statement.

What was found, however, was a photo card posted on Kaler Kantho’s Facebook page on 14 June titled: “Although field-level police may have rifle-type arms, they will not have heavy lethal weapons. He said that specialized units like the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) will have heavy arms.”

Upon review, it was observed that aside from the headline, all other visual elements in this genuine photo card matched those of the edited one. While the original card carried the quote regarding police weaponry, the altered version featured the fabricated statement, “An order has been given to withdraw all murder cases against Sheikh Hasina.”

In essence, the circulated photo card was edited using digital tools by altering the headline of an authentic Kaler Kantho photo card. A comment under the original post on Kaler Kantho’s Facebook page links to a report on their official website, which states that the Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs visited the headquarters of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) in the capital on 14 June and made several statements to journalists. Nowhere in those statements, however, was there any mention of the widely circulated claim.

Therefore, the claim that Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury ordered the withdrawal of all murder cases against Sheikh Hasina, as allegedly reported by Kaler Kantho, is false and based on an edited image.
